23 points was all it took for Senior Scout Spadoni to etch her name into the Amherst history books on Thursday night as the lady Falcons hosted the Manawa Wolves to conclude the regular season. Both teams came into the night 12-11 on the year, however the Falcons had the upper hand in the CWC-East as they went 7-6 compared to Manawa’s 5-8.
It was the wolves who won the tip to start the game, which kicked off a back and forth first half of competition for both sides. Amherst senior Tatum Maves had the most point in the half out of any player with 10 points, six of which came from 2 three-pointers. Junior Maddie Lusic would get the team’s fifth three-pointer to kick off scoring in the second half. Maves would go on to have four of the team’s five three-pointers and would put 16 on the scoreboard overall.
Amherst was up at halftime 25-20, while Spadoni was 15 points from the 1,000 mark. Spadoni would make her mark in the second half as she scored 17 of the Amherst’s 34 points added to the final score in the final 18 minutes of play. Her lone made free throw in the half changed history, as it was point 1,000 for Spadoni as she became the 8th female and 16th overall player in Amherst history to reach this feat. When asked about Scout, Head Coach Brandon Trzebiatowski responded, “It’s good. [She] came with a good work ethic, a kid that gives everything she’s got. Like I said she’s played with injuries, she’s played through a lot of stuff and that’s just heart and you love to coach kids like that.”
In an interview after the game, Spadoni said “I’m feeling great. I mean my team I mean they knew going into the game what I needed and as you saw at the end, they’re there doing everything they could to give me the ball and it just means the world to me.” The Frostburg State rugby commit would go on to thank the community for supporting herself and the team, stating “I want to say thank you everyone for you know streaming in and you know watching this season, and supporting me and the girls and we’ll do you guys proud coming in playoffs.”
After the 59-37 win over the wolves, Amherst improves to 13-11 on the year and 8-6 in the conference. They return to the court on February 23rd, as they travel to Keshana as the #5 seed to once again face conference foe #4 seeded Menominee Indian.
