With the change of the leaves on the trees and colder weather arriving in Central Wisconsin, the next chapter in the 2024 campaign for the Falcons begins this Friday when they host the Oostburg Flying Dutchmen to kick off the WIAA playoffs. Amherst enters the playoffs as a #4 seed, allowing them to host the level one matchup, with the winner either hosting #8 Horicon/Hustisford, or traveling to #1 Stratford.
The Falcons are 7-2 on the year, with a 5-2 record in conference. Oostburg is coming into the playoffs on a 6-4 record, with a three-way tie for 3rd place finish in the Big East Conference.
Caeden Steuerwald in the main person under center for the Flying Dutchmen. Across seven games, the senior has gone 54-97 for 496 yards and six touchdowns, while also running for 342 yards and another five touchdowns. When it comes to receiving the ball, junior AJ Dolfin is the main person to watch for; he has 372 yards and a touchdown on 31 receptions.
When it comes to Amherst, it will be Michael Glodowski at quarterback to kick off playoff competition, The Junior has gone 63-for-100 in passing attempts for 1,042 yards and 14 touchdowns, while also running the ball for 680 yards and an additional 12 touchdowns. Outside of Glodowski, Amherst has two other outstanding running back options in Ayden Nerdahl and Sam Stuczynski.
Over six games, Nerdahl has carried the ball for 571 yards and eight touchdowns, while Stuczynski has 486 yards and three touchdowns over the span of eight games. If the Falcon offense doesn’t want to run the ball, they can always pass it to Sully Perkins. The Junior has been a standout wide receiver for Amherst, catching the ball 28 times for 485 yards and 5 touchdowns.
