Do you like candy? Want a free yearbook? Need some extra credits? Join Yearbook! Yearbook is a year-round class that meets during third hour for one credit or half a year for half a credit. And the best part is, if you are in Yearbook for at least one semester, you will receive a Yearbook free of charge!
Editor Faith Sopa is in her second year. She said her favorite part about Yearbook is “having the freedom to showcase my individual talents and creativity while bouncing ideas off of my peers.”
Tiris Byrd joined Yearbook this year and is already loving it. Tiris’s favorite part about being in Yearbook is the freedom he has when designing pages.
“Making yourself learn design is very nice,” Tiris said. “It’s something that sounds great to be good at.”
Tess Jeske says her favorite part about being in Yearbook is hanging out with friends and creating pages.
Faith’s favorite page she has done is the FFA page from last year. She had a lot of ideas and needed to problem solve a bit, but she is glad she made it work. For several students, Track is a popular page to design, as well as the pages devoted to dance like Prom, Homecoming, and Winter Formal.
According to Tess, who is in her second year in Yearbook, “There are some perks about being in Yearbook. Plus you get plenty of time to work on other stuff like homework.” In Yearbook, each quarter you have to finish a two-page spread for the Yearbook and write a story for The Talon. The Yearbookers (as we call ourselves) have enough time to get homework done along with their pages.
Another perk is candy. As you may have heard, the Yearbookers have the best candy! Merry (aka M Dawg) routinely brings candy as an incentive for the Yearbookers. While Faith likes chocolate, Tiris prefers hard candy. Luckily the Yearbookers compromise often so there is a little bit of everything!
With the new STEAM Building, the Yearbookers also got an upgrade. A new room was added to the library, and it it now filled with new computers thanks to the Wolding family. Junior Izzy Mykisen thinks the new big computers are great for seeing the whole page. Adds Yearbook advisor Merry, “I’m so glad that the Yearbook class finally has a space that fits our needs.” (To see a video we produced of our new space, click here.)
With all the benefits, there really is no reason to not join Yearbook. Over the years, many Yearbookers participate in band and/or choir, as well. To join Yearbook, visit Merry Dudley in the High School Office. Those interested in photography and design are always welcome!
