The Amherst Boys Basketball team is looking for success under first-year head coach Jarett Davidson.
“I think having that development and trust and what I expect will help us grow and be more successful,” coach Davidson said.
The seniors on the team this year include Jack Seeger, Parker Solusby, Eli Zachcheski, and Garrison Gorden. There are high expectations for many players including Jack, Parker, Sully, Micheal, Colton, and even the underclassmen Taylin.
Seeger said, “I expect to win conference, and hopefully regionals.”
Davidson says the team needs “leadership” and cohesiveness from everybody on the team to contribute to a winning season this year.
Davidson mentions that he has high expectations for everybody to play a role in the season this year but especially for the junior Michael Glowdowski to be a leader of the team on and off of the court which he has already shown over the summer and during early practices.
Underclassmen Ayden Nerdahl and Taylin Mcormick have high expectations this year with Taylin being a contributor last year as a freshman and looking to be a main role at the point guard position this season. Also, Ayden Nerdahl looks to be a big contributor as a defensive and offensive player this year excelling inside with his post game.
There are high hopes for the basketball program in the coming years under Davidson’s coaching with Davidson saying that he works with all the levels of Amherst basketball. He hopes to build trust and be able to help to develop the younger generation of Amherst basketball by showing them what he expects from them so they know what to expect by the time they get up to play high school ball.
“We’re looking to find advantages and really finding the best looks for our team,” Davidson mentions
Davidson hopes to get the community involved in the program this year. He plans on doing this by many different events throughout the season, such as the pancake breakfast fundraiser that the basketball program is hosting. It’s an opportunity for the community to come together for breakfast and enjoy pancakes made by the players and also participate in basket raffles and earn some prizes during the fundraisers.
He also hopes to get the community involved by coming to staff appreciation night where the students and players point out staff members that they appreciate. Davidson hopes to start some more volunteer opportunities with the community to help them get more involved. He also hopes to have a white tail night with the community and players to get everybody to come out to White Tail Lanes to eat, go bowling, and have a good time.
