With winter being in the stage of changing temperatures, students have to change what they wear in order to be best suited with the elements. This pertains to footwear especially as more students have been seeing their peers wearing socks with sandals.
Students and staff are mixed on the idea of the footwear choice. Junior Faith Sopa said, “If there are socks with [Birkenstocks], I’m cool with it, but if you have the part that goes in between your toes, then that’s not right.” Ian Dudley, a sophomore, agreed with Sopa, adding that he was “so honest” about it.
Sophomore Naomi Bohn had a different perspective on the case. “I think that socks with sandals are pointless especially in the wintertime because socks aren’t going to keep your feet warm and sandals are for the summer so you wear them in the summer. If your feet are cold just wear regular shoes.”
On the other side, there are supporters of the socks with sandals movement. “I started that trend about 10 years ago,” Amherst Social Studies Teacher Jason Pickering said. “My wife has made fun of me for it for a long, long time, and now I’m just correct.”
At the end of the day, each person has their own choice and opinion on the topic. It’s all up to others, however, to decide whether it’s right or wrong.
