With the expansion of Amherst and its options for students, students were recently asked if there were any sports or clubs that they think should be added to the school’s curriculum? And why that certain activity?
Joseph Rossi said, “I think they should add more less competitive sports. Where the charting, practice and games don’t really matter. I like playing sports but sometimes I want to play a sport I’m not very good at or that I do play and just don’t want to be as competitive.” Amherst needs sports that are calm with fewer practices daily, just maybe once a week that kids can do for fun, Rossi added.
“Maybe a historical club would be a good idea, it will gain attention of students that actually have an interest in historical events…if it actually gains traction,” said Erick Gunthur who also pointed out there are a lot of clubs but not a lot of fun ones that kids look forward to each week.
“Water polo as there is no place anywhere in the area to do water polo,” said Carter Williams who also stated that he’d like the idea of being able to swim here in Amherst.
“A lacrosse team, we don’t have it and it’s a good way to stay competitive with other teams in the area that do have a lacrosse team; but we pretty much have all the sports,” said athletic director Adam Miller. Any other sports not present here can be played as a part of a co-op team with other nearby schools, such as hockey and mountain biking, according to Miller.
