
Senior Ty Schelvan received a Master Angler Award at the 2025 State Ice Fishing Tournament banquet hosted by the Wisconsin Interscholastic Fishing Association (WIFA) at UW-LaCrosse on Sat., Feb. 15.
Schelvan filled eight categories: bluegill (10″), bullhead (14″), crappie (13.75″), largemouth bass (22″), northern pike (35″), perch (14″), walleye (26.75″), whitefish (22.25″).
He’s the first student from Amherst High School to achieve this designation.
“I am really proud of Ty for being our school’s first master angler. I hope he is the first of many. Like so many other things in this club, Ty has led the way,” said Jason Pickering, head coach of the Amherst Fishing Club.
