Senior Jack Seeger has committed to play football at UW-Stout next season. Seeger, who stands 6-foot-5, was named a two-way all-conference lineman at the conclusion of last football season. He was also the starting center on this past season’s basketball team.
UW-Stout is coached by Clay Birmingham. The Blue Devils finished 6-5 overall last season and 4-3 in conference play. Their program is considered by many to be up-and-coming.
“UW-Stout appeals to me because of the culture they have there. When I went on a game day visit to UW-Stout, I could see that they were a very physical team with a competitive program and that’s were I wanted to be. I really liked the coaches there when I visited there. They seemed very down-to-earth and very understanding, but they also want to get the best out of their players and they want to win.
“UW-Stout had good success this year, beating a couple of ranked teams in their division. I love what they are all about, they have a saying, ‘Keep Swinging,’ which means keep swinging and keep battling through adversity.”
Seeger credits his high school coaches for helping prepare him for the next level. According to Seeger, Amherst’s program is one of the finest small programs in the state because of caring coaches who are both knowledgeable and demanding. “Sometimes practice can be really hard, but at the end of the day they just want to get the most out of us. The coaches every week knew how to get us ready for the opponent and always gave us a mental edge on the opponent,” he said.
In terms of football players he finds inspirational, Seeger points to Brett Favre and Russell Wilson. “He (Wilson) was a badger and is always humble, plus he is a really good guy and a competitor,” noted Seeger. “Favre is just a flat-out winner, one of the greatest Packers in team history.”
Although he admires many college and NFL players who have reached the top of their game, Seeger considers himself a self-motivator. “I really don’t need anyone to get me going because I am always by myself finding a way to compete. I am a very competitive person, and no matter what it is I always make it a competition. In some people’s eyes that may be a bad thing, but that is because they probably are not a competitor.”
Seeger is the son of Jesse and Tasha Seeger. He intends on studying special education, following in the footsteps of his mother who also teaches.
