Mr. Linde’s new class, Car Care Maintenance, is an all-around good class that is offered for students who do not know much about cars but would like to learn. This year’s class is acting as guinea pigs for the Tech Ed department to decide if the class is filling the needs of these students. But how are the students feeling about the class in general?
It’s a very interesting class because you get caught all the fundamentals of cars,” said junior Emerie Schelke.
“It’s very easy and understandable,” said junior Xander Drake. “It’s not bad.”
Most of the students want more hands-on time with the vehicles.
“It was a good class but because it’s so new, it definitely needs more hands-on time,” said senior Isaac Snyder. “There could be more time on actual cars and be less in-depth on the random things.” Other students also said that the class can be boring when it’s just lecturing (as with parts of any class), but it’s good once the lecture is over and actual work begins.
Senior Gibson Kenyon said, “It needs more hands-on work, or at least some models of what we are talking about so we can visualize it better.”
Mr. Linde was questioned on how he felt about more girls joining male-dominated classes.
“I wish I could have a class with just girls because most of the boys don’t listen and make a mess of things,” Mr. Linde joked. “A class of all girls would be easier to teach.”
One thing Mr. Linde has said multiple times over the course of the class is that he couldn’t have picked better students for this first section. Overall, everyone loves the class and enjoys their classmates, and when he can, Mr. Linde makes it fun — especially when he makes one of us teach the class. In the picture below, Mr. Linde made Isaac Snyder teach the class about how to keep your car and yourself safe. Isaac talked mostly about a time when he had to swerve all over the road to miss two deer, explaining why it can be a bad idea to swerve.
