Fall sports are winding down, but Cheer is still going strong thanks to veteran members and new coaches. The Cheer team has a lot of positive things to say about this season.
Senior Addison Lafler has been in Cheer for four years and said this season had a few bumps, especially for her when she hurt her leg and had to use crutches for a while. But overall, the season went extremely well.
Spectators really enjoy watching the Cheer team do their stunts. Junior Cloe Giese said that the most difficult cheer stunt that they are currently doing is the Baja Blast. This stunt consists of having two bases (the people on the bottom) flinging a top girl (the flyer). The back spot has the possibility of getting hit by the flyer’s feet, but the flyers have the possibility of falling if the bases don’t put enough power into the throw.
Sophomore Ilyana Carpenter said that they usually feel safe performing their stunts. “Unless it’s something we haven’t practiced much,” she explained. “Then we get a little nervous performing it.” She also said that considering they have completely new coaches this year, the season has gone pretty well overall.
One of the biggest crowd-pleasers during Homecoming is the Senior Guy/Girl routine. Cloe said the process of working with the guys and creating the routine is a rollercoaster of ups and downs.
“It’s like working with toddlers sometimes,” Cloe laughed.
Addison agreed that creating the Guy/Girl routine can be very difficult, but the season is going extremely well.
The Amherst Cheer Team is an amazing group of girls. They bring the BOOM to anything they are involved in!
