The Amherst Track & Field team sent four students to the two-day State competition in La Crosse on June 5-6, 2026. Juniors Alexis Wierzba, Ayden Nerdahl, and Cal Lusic were joined by freshman Elise Christianson to compete in five events over the weekend.
At State, Amherst competes in Division 2 and one of the smallest schools in the division. The top six finishers in each event make the podium.
On Friday, Elise finished 11th in the High Jump, topping out at 5’2″. The first-place finisher hit a 5’8″ jump to take the gold.
Also on Friday was the Boys Triple Jump, where Cal finished 14th with a 40-10.00 result.
On Saturday, the juniors lit it up. Alexis took fifth in Girls Discus with a top throw of 138-8. The top four throwers scored a 143-5, 140-2, 139-10, 138-9.
Just moments later, it was time for Boys Long Jump for Ayden and Cal. Ayden finished seventh at 21-8.5, while Cal finished just one spot ahead in sixth with a 21-10.5. The top jumper put up a score of 23-2.
