May 1 @ Marathon: L 8-4
Aubrey Chandler had two RBIs and and Delaney Conner had one RBI in the 8-4 loss to Marathon. Aubrey and Delaney each had two hits, with Lexi Martin, Presley Voss, and Sam Nooyen each had one. Sam took the loss on the mound with six strikeouts.
May 4 @ Iola-Scandinavia: L 16-15 (8 innings)
Softball engaged in a true slugfest at Iola but lost 16-15 in 8 innings. Amherst and Iola combined for 31 runs and 38 hits. Jackie Nooyen led Amherst with five hits including two doubles. Aubrey Chandler had three hits, with Izzy Losinski, Sam Nooyen, and Presley each having two hits. But the biggest hit for Amherst was a three-run homer by Presley Voss.
May 7 vs Menominee Nation: W 15-0
Two slugfests in a row? Inconceivable! And yet, the Falcons dominated Meno Nation and padded their hitting stats at the same time. Senior Allison Lassa led the team with three hits; seniors Calee Schulist, Aubrey Chandler, and Presley Voss each had two; and sophomores Jackie Nooyen, Rachel Portmann, Jordynn Stuczynski, Ava Dambroski, plus freshman Izzy Losinski and senior Sam Nooyen each added one run.
May 8 @ Assumption: L 5-1
It was a rough day in Rapids against Assumption, with the Falcons losing 5-1 to the Royals. Hits were notched by Jackie Nooyen, Aubrey Chandler, Delaney Conner, and Presley Voss, with Presley tallying the RBI.
May 11 @ Shiocton: W 11-1
After a tough loss to Assumption, Amherst rallied at Shiocton with an 11-1 win. Doubles by sophomore Jackie Nooyen and senior Calee Schulist while gathering 3 and 2 hits, respectively. Hits also came from Aubrey Chandler, Ava Dambroski, Delaney Conner, and Sam Nooyen.
May 12 @ Bonduel: L 11-1
The day before it was Amherst winning 11-1. Today is was Amherst losing 11-1 to Bonduel. The game was tight through the first three innings, with Bonduel leading 1-0. Amherst scored a run in the fourth inning, but Bonduel scored three. The nail in the Falcon’s coffin came in the fifth inning when the Bears scored 7 unanswered runs.
May 14 @ Manawa: W 5-2
Amherst was back to winning form against Manawa, scored four runs in the fourth inning and one in the fifth to take the W. Freshman Izzy Losinski and sophomore Ava Dambroski each had a double, with hits also coming from Calee Schulist, Presley Voss, Ivy Boelk, and Sam Nooyen.
May 18 vs Weyauwega-Fremont: W 16-0
Amherst beat Wega-Fremont 1609 in three innings in Amherst. All nine starters had hits, with Calee Schulist, Aubrey Chandler, Delaney Conner, Presley, Voss, Jackie Nooyen, and Sam Nooyen each having two hits. Ivy Boelk also had two hits including an in-the-park home run and a double. Sam Nooyen dominated on the mound, giving up no hits while walking one. Sam struck out six of the nine batters she faced. Amherst will be going back to where it all started for one more game before the playoffs. Amherst will face Iola-Scandinavia at Nelson Park in downtown Amherst at 7:00 pm.
May 21 vs Iola-Scandinavia: W 8-2
What a night! Amherst softball returned to Nelson Park and Freddie’s Home plate in downtown Amherst vs Iola on a beautiful Thursday night. After falling behind 2-0 in the top of the first inning, the Falcons scored 5 runs in the second inning to take the lead and then added three runs for the 8-2 final. Samantha Nooyen pitched a great game for Amherst, giving up one earned run while allowing seven T-Brid hits. Sam struck out nine batters and walked two. Sophomore Ava Dambroski led the Falcons with three hits, including a double. Aubrey Chandler also had three hits, with freshmen Jackie Nooyen and Izzy Losinski adding 2 hits each. Losinski and junior Ivy Boelk both made great defensive plays for Amherst. Thank you to all the fans from both teams for the incredible turnout for a game that was put together in three days.
The Falcons finish the regular season fourth in the conference at 8-6 and 13-9 overall.
