May 4 @ Wittenberg: The Amherst track team competed against 10 other schools at the Wittenberg Invite. The boys placed second, and the girls placed sixth overall.
Leading the boys was Erick Gunther as he broke the five-minute mile mark, winning the 1600M. Solomon Towne was close behind, taking second place in the mile and later winning the 3200M. Owen Wiesman placed second in the 3200M. Other silver-level finishers were Deqlund Waltenberg in the 300M Hurdles, Orion Eschenbauch in the Discus, Colton Vander Laan in the 400M, and Andrew Brimhall in the 800M. Rounding out the field was Morgan Brown with a first-place finish in the 800M.
The Amherst girls were led by Lexi Wierzba, who won both the Shot Put and Discus competitions, earning personal records in both events. Ellie Laws ran a strong 800M race, taking third place. Speedy Jozzie Stuczynski took third in the 200M, and Olive Impullitti battled her way to third in the 3200M.
May 7 @ Waupaca: The Varsity track team traveled to Waupaca for the large Vic Tree Invite. Leading the Lady Falcons with first-place finishes were Jozzie Stuczynski in the 200M, Lexi Wierzba in the Discus, and Elise Christianson in the High Jump. Ava Straw earned a new personal best, jumping 5’ 0” in High Jump and placing second. Wierzba also brought home a bronze medal in Shot Put.
Leading the boys team with first-place finishes were Erick Gunther in the 1600M and Cal Lusic in the Triple Jump. The 4×100 team of JC Bohman, Lusic, Taylan McCormick, and Tyler Loken cruised to second and set a new personal record for the season. Our final medal winners of the night with third-place finishes were the 4×800 team of Eric Gunther, Deqlund Waltenberg, Andrew Brimhall, and Morgan Brown; the 4×200 team of Colton Vander Laan, Carter Groshek, McCormick, and Loken; and Waltenberg in the 300M Hurdles.
May 11 @ Wittenberg: At the Wittenberg Lions Invitational, the Falcons enjoyed first-place finishes from Cal Lusic in the Triple Jump and the 4×800 team of Andrew Brimhall, Solomon Towne, Owen Wiesman, and Erick Gunther. Brimhall went on to run a solid race in the open 800, placing second, with Towne finishing third in the 3200M. Our 4×200 relay team of Lusic, Mateo Cisewski, Colton Vander Laan, and Tyler Johnson placed second, as well. Rounding out the evening were several third-place finishes — Landon Austin in High Jump, Noah Furmanek in 100M Hurdles, Deqlund Waltenberg in the 300M Hurdles, and JC Bohman, Lusic, Vander Laan, and Tyler Loken in the 4×100 relay.
The Lady Falcons were led by Jozzie Stuczynski, who placed second in the 400M, running her inaugural open quarter mile! Also placing second was the 4x800M relay team of Lily Passwaters, EvaLee Cole, Emerald Larsen, and Ryden Higgins. The relay team for the 4x200M featured Higgins, Passwaters, Lila McGuire, and Claire Wiesman, and they came in third. Also taking third was Ava Straw in the High Jump.
May 16 @ Weyauwega: The co-ed Varsity track team had a fabulous weekend of competition at the Central Wisconsin Conference meet in Weyauwega.
Leading the Falcons with a first-place finish and earning them First Team All Conference was the 4×800 relay team of Erick Gunther, Deqlund Waltenberg, Andrew Brimhall, and Morgan Brown. Ayden Nerdahl jumped 22’ 5” in the Long Jump, breaking his previous school record and setting a new conference record. This jump solidified his first-place finish and his First T All Conference standing.
Other outstanding performances were had by Carter Groshek, Cal Lusic, Taylan McCormick, and Tyler Loken in the 4×100 relay where they placed second, earning Second Team All Conference. Groshek, McCormick, and Loken along with Colton Vander Laan also earned Second Team All Conference in their 4×200 relay. Vander Laan, McCormick, Tyler Johnson, and Elliot Podeszwa raced to a second-place finish in the 4×400 relay — only two tenths of a second from breaking our current 4×400 relay record. Rounding out the performance was Cal Lusic with a Second Team All Conference place in the Triple Jump.
The Lady Falcons also had a great day on the track, making their own statement with several broken records and stellar performances. Jozzie Stuczynski, Elise Christianson, Ava Straw, and Alexis Wierzba won the 4x200M relay and broke the current school record. This race earned them First Team All Conference standing. Wierzba went on to win the 100M Hurdles and the Discus. Her throw on Saturday set a new conference record. Lexi also got third place in the Shot Put, earning her Honorable Mention in conference standings.
To wrap up all conference rankings for Amherst was Elise Christianson with a First Team All Conference finish in High Jump, followed closely by Ava Straw with a third-place finish in High Jump, earning her Honorable Mention. These strong performances, along with numerous other personal bests across most of the track and field events of the day, earned the boys team fifth place, and the girls team fourth place in our tough conference of 10 teams.

Regionals at Waupaca May 26-27: The Varsity track team competed at the Regional meet in Waupaca. Despite crazy hot weather at the beginning of competition, to thunder, lightning, and torrential rain at the end, the Falcons did an amazing job on and off the track. Qualifying for the Sectional meet that will be held in Chilton are the following athletes:
Andrew Brimhall, Morgan Brown, Erick Gunther & Deqlund Waltenberg in the 4 x 800 relay.
Erick qualified individually for the 1600 meter run, while Deqlund qualified for the 300 m hurdles.
Carter Groshek, Elliot Podeszwa, Taylan McCormick, and Tyler Loken qualified in the 4 x 200 meter relay. Podeszwa & McCormick along with Tyler Johnson, and Colton Vanderlaan also qualified in the 4 x 400 meter relay.
Vander Laan qualified individually for the 400 meter dash. Groshek and Loken along with Cal Lusic and Ayden Nerdahl qualified in the 4 x 100 meter relay. Loken will also be competing individually in the boys shot put while Nerdahl and Lusic will be battling in the Long and Triple jumps at sectionals.
On the girls side, Elise Christianson and Ava Straw both qualified in high jump, with Elise breaking her own school record again with a jump of 5’ 4”.
Emerald Larsen cleared 7’ 0” in the pole vault qualifying her for the Sectional meet.
Grace Roberts qualified in the shot put, while Lexi Wierzba qualified in shot and discus.
On the track Ellie Laws ran a great 1600 m run earning her a spot at Sectionals while Jozzie Stuczynski raced extremely well in both the open 100 and 200 m dash securing her spot in the competition tomorrow.
There were countless other solid performances and personal records being earned over the course of the meet, despite the chaotic weather. Both teams placed 3rd in a tough field of 8 schools from our area. Congratulations on a strong series of competitions and good luck tomorrow at Sectionals.
