After the conclusion of this year’s winter sports, most students turn their attention to spring sports, and their possibilities of bringing championships to Amherst. Here is an overview of last year by sport, and what you could possibly expect this year.

Baseball: 19-6 (11-1)
After an exciting spring season last year, the Amherst baseball team is ready to defend their conference championship. From what the numbers say about last year, we can expect the team to make another great run not only in the conference, but in the WIAA state playoffs. With a batting average of .313 and 208 hits over the entire 2021 season, it’s no wonder Amherst is ranked #4 in Division 3 preseason rankings.

Girl’s Soccer: 13-4-1 (5-1)
The co-op soccer team between Amherst and Iola-Scandinavia is looking to continue its winning ways after last season. With only four losses last year, and one in conference, it’s safet to assume that they are gonna be a factor in determining the Mid-Western Wisconsin Conference champion.

Golf:Golf Team 2019
The golf team is ready to get their clubs back on the course. They saw some success last year, placing 6th in conference as a team. On the individual side of the team, graduate Eugene Gregorich placed second overall in the conference and Michael Benjamin represented Amherst at Sectionals. This year, Coach Pikka and Coach Vander Laan are looking forward to having 15 golfers on their roster. The team had three seniors last year on a team of 10. This year, they are able to replace those numbers plus grow the team by 50%. It is super exciting to see the golf program expand year after year. The coaches are also excited to have some ladies join the team this year! If you want to cheer them on, they will be playing local courses and some of the top courses in the state such as the Irish course at Whistling Straits and Thornberry Creek.

Thank you Coach Pikka and Coach Vander Laan for providing the information above about the Golf program!!!

Softball: 18-5 (10-2)
The Lady Falcons had an outstanding 2021 season. They might have been runner-up in the CWC-East, but they won a regional championship. The outcomes of last year’s highs and lows may drive the team even harder to go further in the state tournament.

Track And Field:
Even though Amherst is the smallest school in Division 2 Track & Field, the Falcons are starting to make a little bit of a name for themselves. They sent some of their athletes to Regionals at Winneconne, Sectionals at Fox Valley Lutheran, and sent thrower Lauren Bird to the state meet in La Crosse where she competed in the Shot Put. The girls placed 6th, while the boys placed 7th at the conference meet that was held in Rosholt last year. They are starting out this season with some indoor meets, then they will move outside for the rest of the season.

The live stream schedule for the spring season is yet to be determined. Good luck to all student-athletes and have fun!!!!!!!
