The Amherst Boys Bowling team has started off a very promising season by winning their first two bowling meets at Dale’s Weston Lanes in Wausau. The first meet in November saw Amherst beat Wittenberg-Birnamwood 5-4 and Northland Lutheran 8-1.
Amherst traveled to Weston on December 14 to take on Iola-Scandinavia and Merrill. They arrived knowing the oil pattern was going to be tougher but with a decent idea of how it was going to play. But when they showed up, they were met with a total rollercoaster of a pattern that played nothing like it did at Whitetail Lanes. The team struggled through the adversity, however, and found a way to succeed.
The team defeated one of their biggest rivals, Iola-Scandinavia, 6.5 to 2.5, securing the win early and not giving the Thunderbirds a chance to come back. The team then took on Merrill for their second match and put it to bed early, defeating Merrill 7-2 and averaging 190 between both meets. The team knows what they need to do to succeed, and they are going to try their hardest to keep this A-Train going.
The team is currently 4-0 leading up to their next meet on January 4, where they will bowl on a tougher oil pattern yet hope to assert their dominance over their opponents. They will go into the meet with the mindset that nobody gets let out of the coffin and the nails are going in early!
