Amherst students will be showing off their best fashion model moves for their winter formal dance, which will be themed “Vogue.” Winter Formal is scheduled for January 24 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Amherst High School Cafeteria.
To match the Vogue theme, girls generally wear cocktail (short) dresses, and boys wear nice pants with a dressy, button-down shirt. Some choose to wear a tie, but some do not.
“My favorite part of Winter Formal is just seeing all the students having fun and relaxing,” said Mrs. Prescher, the Student Council advisor.
Student Council organizes the annual dance and puts together everything from the decorations to the snacks. Students can get tickets about a week before the dance in the HS Office for $15 each, or they can get tickets for $20 each at the door.
Students will get to vote for King and Queen. If an Amherst student would like to bring a guest from another school, it is possible but one must get a guest permission slip which can be found in the HS Office about two weeks before the dance. This year, the formal features the same DJ as previous years — AJ the DJ — and there will be water and cookies available. Student Council will also have a photo backdrop area for students to get pictures taken.
According to Mrs. Prescher, the Student Council advisor, “We also may have a small surprise planned for attendees.” So there will also be something new this year!
Remember, students are not allowed to bring carry-ins like energy drinks or water bottles. And if you leave the dance, you cannot return. Doors will be locked at 8 p.m.
For sophomore Marian Gruber, her favorite part of Winter Formal is “hanging out and getting ready with friends before.”
“My favorite part is going out to dinner with friends before Winter Formal,” said junior Kendal Kirsling.
Hope to see you there in your Winter Formal wear!
