The Amherst Boys Basketball opened up their season on Saturday, November 29, with a win against Wautoma 66-51. Junior Taylan McCormick scored 21 points, followed by seniors Sully Perkins with 17 and Colton Vander Laan with 14. The game was played at the Wisconsin Herd Arena in Oshkosh.
Then on Monday, December 1, the boys beat Rosholt 76-36. Leading scorers were McCormick with 15, Vander Laan with 14, sophomore Tony Vaquera and Perkins each with 11, and sophomore Lucas Leary with 10. The team shot 50% from the floor and from the line.
The Manawa Wolves hosted the Falcons on December 5, but Amherst brought home the win 48-44. Leading scorers were Vander Laan with 25 and McCormick with 16.
On December 11, the Amherst Boys faced off against the Menominee Indians at home. Amherst secured the victory 63-53. McCormick and Perkins both scored 20 points, securing 40 points for the falcons. Perkins also went 4-of-5 on three-point attempts.
The boys traveled to Shiocton and dominated the Chiefs 57-49 on December 16. Perkins led the way with 16 points, with McCormick chipping in 14 and Vander Laan adding 13.
The Falcons hit the road and traveled to Wittenberg-Birnamwood on December 19 but fell just short with a final score of 37-39. McCormick was 5-of-7 for three-pointers, scoring 17 points overall while Perkins chipped in 8 and Vander Laan scored 7.
Like the girls team, the boys team played two games in the Sentry Classic during holiday break. They split the series, winning 57-53 versus Pacelli but losing 32-53 vs Northland Pines.
So at the end of December, the Amherst boys basketball team has an overall record of 6-2.
