The Amherst girls varsity basketball team advanced to the regional semi-final but lost on the road to complete their season with a 12-14 record, 6-3 at home and 4-8 away.
Leading scorers this season included junior Alexis Wierzba (308 points), senior Presley Voss (208 points),junior Hollie Singer (176 points), junior Ivy Boelk (140 points), and senior Courtney Groholski (102 points). While Wierzba had the most points overall, the first six games of the season featured a different leading scorer, a testament to the team’s depth and sense of team play.
Top rebounders this season were Boelk (8.4 rebounds per game), Voss (7 rpg), and Wierzba (6.3 rpg). Notable players in assists this year were Singer (3 assists per game), Wierzba (2.2 apg), and Boelk ( 2 apg). Several juniors also led in field goal percentage including Boelk (42.3%), Wierzba (36.4%), and Singer (33.3%).
The team this year featured five senior players. Coach Adam Miller said that Voss really came out of the shadows this year with her performance, especially shooting the ball.
“I’ll really miss these girls,” said Miller. “Every year, it’s not fun, that last locker room moment is not fun.” Though the end of the season was tough, Miller said these girls taught him a lot as a coach. He learned just how hard to push the girls to make a better team and each a better player.
While the 2025-2026 season has come to an end, it’s time for the next group to start stepping up for the 2026-2027 season. The girls will participate in a summer league with notable varsity players Wierzba, Singer, and Boelk back in the mix. Miller said it will be tough to figure out who will fill the spots left empty by the seniors but he knows they can do it and he’s already preparing for next season.
