Nursing is a profession that will always be in high demand because it can not be replaced. This provides nurses with job security and makes nursing a stable career choice. Nursing is a great career option because nursing jobs are in high demand, pay well, and make a positive impact on people’s lives.
Nursing remains a favored career of many as it “ dominates national hiring trends” (Walker 2025). Nursing careers currently rank as one of the highest in demand positions as of 2025, and are predicted to grow. Nurses are in high demand all across the US with California, Texas, New Jersey and Washington having the most critical demand (American Association of Colleges of Nursing 2024). This shows that nursing jobs are in high demand in different areas all across the US so there is job availability no matter where you live. There are also different kinds of nursing jobs needed. Some of the highest in demand jobs include travel nurses, ICU nurses, psychiatric nurses and hospice nurses.
Nursing can be a lucrative career based on salary and college cost. While there are many different options for college when becoming a nurse, Mid State Technical College’s tuition is estimated at $14,699.56 per year. After completing your nursing degree you could start at a job with a starting salary of anywhere from $78,000 to $86,500 per year, this money would help to to quickly pay off any student loans.
Nurses impact the lives of patients and their families on a personal level: “Doing a job where you know you’re making a real difference in people’s lives is a powerful thing” (ANA Nursing Resources hub). Nursing isn’t just a job where you go to earn money and get done with your day. Each day in nursing you are meeting new people and impacting their lives. These people are your patients or you are providing care for their loved ones. You have to have empathy, compassion and be understanding for people. I have especially seen this with my mom who is a hospice nurse. She has impacted so many people’s lives by truly trying to be there for her patients by providing them with the right care and comfort in their final days. She also has to be there for her patients’ families to help them to navigate them through loss, grief and understanding. This can be mentally taxing but it makes nursing very rewarding for her.
Ultimately nursing is a great career, Nursing jobs are in high demand, pay well, and make a positive impact on people’s lives. Nursing jobs are diverse with many different areas to work in and provide a stable job with security. This is what makes nursing a great career.
