Have you ever transferred schools before? Imagine transferring to a school in a different country that speaks a language you aren’t familiar with.
Jassmin Gutierrez, 18, transferred here from Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico for her senior year. When Gutierrez first got here she was excited because she likes changing up her routine and meeting new people, but also sad because she was having a really good year in Mexico.
She has a lot of good friends there that she likes to go out with and have fun with. Gutierrez said what she misses most about living in Mexico was her school and seeing her friends. Some of her favorite things to do back home with her friends were to watch movies, go to parties, and just go out in general with them.
When she moved here, she decided to join the school’s cheer leading squad and it ended up being one of her most fun and best memories of the year. When she came here her biggest goal was to graduate, which she’s about to achieve on Fri., May 22. Another goal she has is to learn how to speak English fluently, which she has been practicing and making progress on all year.
After she graduates, she plans to start working and attend a university back home in Mexico. After that, her dream job is to either be a lawyer or a teacher.
