The girls soccer team enjoyed some big wins in April, including a victory over Assumption for the first time in eight years, as well as a multi-match winning streak. There were also some tough but close losses of note as the team entered May in the middle of the conference pack. Still, this group of girls has shown enough promise to make a move up the standings and contend for a top spot as regionals approach.
April 6 vs Antigo: Despite the windy conditions, the Amherst Girls Soccer team got hot, winning 5-1 over Antigo. Junior Naomi Bohm scored two goals in the win. Chipping in one goal apiece were junior Oakley Franson, senior Ava Lansing, and senior Hannah Rekowski.
April 7 @ Mosinee: Amherst Girls Soccer traveled to Mosinee last night. Senior Mia Rockefeller scored twice, with an assist from Ava Lansing, and Hannah Rekowski scored once in the team’s 3-0 win. Keeper Amelia Scheunemann had a pretty quiet night in goal with no saves. Shout out to freshman Evelyn Fleming and the rest of the defense for a great performance. The girls will host Lourdes Academy on Friday night at 7pm.
April 10 vs Lourdes Academy: The team suffered a tough loss, 0-3, to Lourdes Academy.
April 14 vs Wautoma: Another tough loss for the Lady Falcons versus Wautoma, losing 0-4.
April 17 @ Mauston: Girls soccer got back on track, winning 2-1 versus Mauston. Junior Oakley Franson scored in the first half, and senior Ava Lansing scored the game-winning goal in the second half. Sophomore Amelia Schuenemann had seven saves in the match. Great job everyone!
April 22 vs Assumption: It’s been eight years since they beat Assumption, but the Amherst Girls Soccer team got the job done last night, winning 3-0. Junior Emerie Schelke scored in the first two minutes of the game, then junior Naomi Bohm had two second-half breakaway goals to seal the win. All three goals were assisted by captain Hannah Rekowski. It was an impressive defensive effort as we allowed no shots on goal. April 23 vs Clintonville: It wasn’t a big final score, but Amherst won three in a row when they blanked the Truckers 1-0.
April 24 @ New London: Girls Soccer played New London but fell just short 2-3. Goals came from Oakley Franson and Hannah Rekowski with an assist from Mia Rockefeller. Keeper Amelia Scheunemann had 22 saves.
April 28 vs Berlin: The team had a big conference game versus first-place Berlin. Amelia had some huge saves to keep the girls in the game, but Berlin scored late in the second half and the Falcons suffered a 0-1 loss. The team is looking forward to the rematch in a few weeks!
